Why Use a Referral Service Instead of Calling Contractors Yourself?

An honest look at what this site is, what it isn't, and when calling contractors directly makes more sense.

What This Site Is

How It Works

Cross Timbers Foundation & Drainage is a free referral service. You send a request, and one independent local contractor follows up. The site doesn't perform foundation or drainage work, and it doesn't set the contractor's prices or guarantee their work.

You pay this site nothing. The contractor who follows up may pay to receive requests from this site. You're never required to hire them.

The Trade-Offs

Referral Request vs. Calling Around

What a referral request gives you

Guides and a cost estimator to understand the problem before anyone calls you, one point of contact, and no need to research and phone a dozen companies first.

What it doesn't give you

A side-by-side comparison. You get one contractor, not several competing bids, and this site doesn't vet or endorse them.

Protect Yourself

Whatever Route You Take

  • Get at least two written estimates, from any source
  • Verify the contractor's insurance and ask for recent references yourself
  • Ask for the measurements and method behind the plan, in writing
  • Compare warranty terms: what's covered, for how long, and whether it transfers
  • Don't sign the same day under pressure, and be cautious about large deposits

When Calling Directly Makes Sense

A Fair Take

If you already have a contractor you trust, a neighbor's recommendation, or you want several bids at once, calling around is a perfectly good route. This site is most useful if you're not sure what's wrong yet and want to understand it first.

Want to understand it first?

Describe what you're seeing in the form below. If it helps, the contractor may ask you to text photos when they call, so keep a few handy.
